OK, the plane lands in Adelaide, we find our bags (isn’t it the best feeling when your bags and you are in the same place!) and we find our guide, Jayne. Like all the Australian Luxury Escape folks we use during our time here, she packs our heads with stories, history, geology, buildings and we soak it in.
Then, all of a sudden and perhaps a bit rude on my part I stop the lesson with a "Hey, I just saw a Brooker sign!" and not skipping a beat, Jayne flips about for closer look and sure enough, there it is, "Brooker Terrace Avenue"
I am sure this means my long lost relatives hit it big in Australia and I am probably the last remaining one of this family branch and I might be able to afford this vacation! Turns out the street is only a block long and stops short of the biscuit factory.
Back to the tour and we find this city of around 1 million has charm but is a bit short of the glam of Sydney and the other large cities. We like it and feel like we have found a gem. We are looking for wine and the Barossa Valley is close. But first Jayne continues with the tour and all of a sudden, on a hilly road says, "OK, watch for Koala Bears in the trees". Really, are you serious? It is not long and Jane gives out a call "Right there!" and there is a, swear to god, Koala. There are many different kinds of gum trees and only 4 are the right kind for these bears. And the leaves get them stoned out of their mind. So, they sleep, munch leaves, sleep, and, well, you get the idea. But cute they are and we try to get him to turn round so we can see his face. Nope, he is comfortable just how he is so we get a butt shot and the back of one ear.
Twice more we spot the little guys, one time of his face but the camera was not quick enough so we have a butt shot to remember. Back in town we see several older buildings and find this City has some history and is known as a city of churches and we see may old stone churches and other buildings.
We stop for a late lunch at one of the local pubs and the food was delicious. Our water is served in none other than an old Jack Daniels bottle... They must dig that one out just for Americans...
