So Steve, our guide that covers the South Island for Veronika, picks us up for the days adventure and will be with us for the next several days. Steve has reviewed our profile, talked to Veronika and seems to know exactly the right vibe to keep us happy. We are comfortable right away and so starts a beautiful drive away from the Remarkables (a mountain range running North and South outside our window) and along Lake Wakatipu.
Only the third largest lake in New Zealand it runs some 36 miles of the most beautiful tourquoise color. The lake is fed by glacier waters that are full of granite powder and when hit by sunshine the light reflects the remarkable blue color. Steve takes us to a georgeous park and lagoon where we walk the pier and walk a track (Trail to us) around a stream feeding the lake. Damn I wish I had a fly rod! It is so peaceful, beautiful, and perhaps we have coined another meaning of "Soul Food" as we are filled with the pure air and visual delights. What a wonderful start to the day!
We head to a delightful winery and find some keepers and decide to take some back for later.
Not far and on the way back we turn into the original bungy jump place in the world. None of us have seen that so we take a view and watch a few make the leap from a bridge to only be jerked back just before hitting the river below. Tina and even Krimhilde thinks about it but Jim and I have no problem deciding this is no place to die.
The sunset from our hotel room is georgous, nice dinner and a good nights sleep. Tomorrow we set out for a 4 wheel drive through the Wanaka Mountain Range. Cannot wait for another fun filled day!
