Higher Calling

Hi, Tina here....

While packing yesterday and looking through drawers, I started thinking about my father when I spotted the bible he gave me when I was 5 years old. Next to the bible was a Marriott envelope. It's dad! I've had my allocation of his ashes in an envelope since he passed a few years ago. Yes, I agree, it sounds morbid, but it was a Marriott envelope, not a Days Inn or a Travel Lodge envelope, although if you knew my father you would know that he would have been just fine with any envelope.

This will be my first vacation without talking to dad first and letting him know where I was going and what I am going to do. Dad would always give me a lecture on being careful, more so as we both grew older. I picked up the envelope, opened it up, pulled out the Ziplock bag and for the first time my fingers ventured into the bag. It was a bit emotional touching the ashes but afterwords, I knew exactly what I was going to do with some of his ashes, dad is going to Machu Picchu too! It's that simple, great idea...and so poetic, some of him can rest on the top with the Inca spirits.

I carefully allocated out a certain portion of the ashes to take just in case someone steals my bag, or just in case I forget the Ziplock bag somewhere...wouldn't that be precious, losing all of what I had physically left of dad. So, much like my father, I was not going to risk everything... instead, caution... why not take just a finger tip or a little toe. and who knows...maybe there will be other wonderful places in the world that I can take some of dad, he travels quite well now!
