Saga, Day One; Brookers

Unfriendly Skies

Clyde here....

We start the adventure one day early flying from Sacramento to Dallas. Brand new airport and no one there but us! It gets better as there are only 30 people on a big ol plane and a smooth flight until... "Oh look Krimhilde - lightning!" Whoa, what the.... oh sh__ the plane is being shaken and stirred and we just went into free fall! Comes the Stewardess, "We cannot go through the cabin to check so make sure your seat is upright and you belt is really tight" Shake, Roll and passengers making half screams and deep breathing. Comes the Captain, "Dallas Airport is closed so we are diverted to San Antonio"

Constant lightning lights the sky but the Captain gets us down and they open the bar and we passengers laugh together. Hold the wine Tina, we will be there later or tomorrow. Comes the Captain, "we are filling up, there is an opening from one direction and we are heading out" Shake, roll, bump, but we are seasoned now and in a couple of hours we are down. The luggage all makes it and we arrive only 5 hours late to our perfect hostess with a wonderful snack with a great glass of wine. Whew, wonder what tomorrow holds for us...

Tina here...

Jim and I left for the airport to pick up the Brookers. Clear skies for about 5 minutes and then the lighting started. Jim said, "Their plane will be diverted". Got there, verified diversion, went home, called a limo service for the Brookers and cracked open the wine. As perfect travel companions, our discussion was, "better them, than us". and... "ain't this wine great!" Brookers arrived about 2 a.m. with tails of trepidation.

Packing time..

To take or not to take...that is the question.

And we are off!

Next stop is Santiago...
