Hi, Clyde Here...
We have been so busy buying special this and special that and getting shots and pills for scary black death type stuff they have in Peru. We have been so busy preparing for leaving our world behind for 3 weeks that we hardly heard any current events.
Our ears did pick up however with the news of some American couple lost in Cusco (our destination). Turns out they were OK, just idiots - whew! Then we heard Cusco and Machu Pichu is so dangerous our government won't even allow the low ranks to venture there. Great. But hey, we live in California and walk the Mission District in San Francisco after dark. And one time we drove through Oakland (window up of course and a full tank of gas!) so how bad could it be?
Seems the Peru money counters are pretty upset at the bad publicity so we figure the army will be force and visible like never before. The shop owners will be smiling and happy. It just makes our hearts all warm and fuzzy how much we are loved - as long as the dollars keep leaving the wallet.
We started our big talk last October on this trip and it got out of control and none of us had a clue how to stop! Now we are one week away from sitting in the airplane headed to South America and adventure after adventure. What a job Tina has done setting up our trip! Our idea of checking off one bucket list item has turned into a whole slew of check marks. We are half scared, way excited and full of wonder.
Let the fun begin...
