7-2 & 7-3-15: Up In The Air...

Clyde here:
So many questions. So many decisions. So many things to remember. Take a coat? Do I need a hat - yeah, we need a hat. Which hat - what will fit? Better take Advil, maybe some Rolaids cause who know what kind of food and drink might happen. We make piles here and there and finally just start throwing stuff in the suitcase and hope we have something to wear and enough "Just in case" situations covered. Whatever, the suitcase is closing, the house and yard is taken care of and we have done what we can. Lets start making some food cause Tina has alerted us they will arrive before we know it. And by golly there they are and they have wine to drink! Morning comes and we are off to Sacramento for our flight - Iceland here we come. It is kind of messed up because it is too early to sleep and the sun shows no sign of stopping.
Seven hours after leaving Seattle there it is - this green Island in the middle of nowhere and we wonder - "Just how smart is this?".
We have a wonderful house just waiting for us, so as soon as we clear customs and catch our ride to the house we can unwind, relax and go shop for food and a look around this place. The Airport is a 40 minute ride from Reykjavik. This place looks different - no trees to speak of, some steam rising from hot springs and some very strange to us sounding names everywhere. But we soon find the folks here are very friendly and love to show off there excellent English to us. And nearly everything is written also in English. Good thing cause, good grief, this language gives not a clue what is being said or written. But we feel at home.

Ah, there is the house ahead but it seems a long way from town and any shopping. Looks just like the picture we saw on the internet when we rented the place, maybe the yard could be trimmed but lets see inside. Good, the key works and, ooh, what is that smell? Straight ahead is an open room with stuff lying all around. It looks really run down and kind of dirty. Upstairs it get worse. No sheets on the beds? The kitchen is, um, pretty gross. Well maybe someone will come by and clean it but no, that would take some power washing and I don't see that happening. And of course we paid already. Tina gets to work and before you know it we are out of the contract, we get a full refund and we have rooms in town. Not that easy ya know but with the help of our guide and nifty work by Tina - we are out of a bad situation, in the middle of town and exhausted.
We get food but we are are done and it is time for a nap. It is high season here and we find reservations are a must for food or you wait in line. So we wait in line at a hot spot inhabited with hostel people, local folks and us but it smells good. Cool place - they stick the food on a stick, put it over a fire and bring it to you - whereever you land - outside, inside, back room or, like us upstairs. Its fun and with our friends Gisi and Tommy along we have a great time.

Feeling better now and we walk around, drink Aho Wine and walk go to our rooms around midnight with the sun just a shinning bright like it was mid day. Sleep is not easy with the sun shinning and noise all night. They be Viking blood in these folks and they party hard. Bars close at 5:00AM. Music and singing and sunshine makes for a memorable night just not a sleeping night. But the air is nice, the water is fantastic, the folks are friendly and the City is charming so we are now set for a great adventure and stay.
